A panoramic sound recording of the daybreak, Lavaud Gelade Lake (45.85191° N - 001.96295 E) towards 6h00 in the morning: birds, fish, fishermen… the sounds outlines the lake . An “hi-fi landscape” (refering to Schafer “classification”) : each sound is heard here very distinctly in space without masking.

I enjoyed listening for clues about the geography. There seem to be more animals to the left and something reflecting sounds left of center. Does the lake extend more to the right? More of the sound from that side seems distant. When I increased the volume, I discovered a softer, but surprisngly dense layer of sustained harmonies from blended calls. The facilitation of your blog is really impressive too. Thanks Cedric!

    Rob,

    Thanks for kind comments.
Well, on the left there is a wood (so birds) and as you may hear we can also hear some dogs from a quite distant village (left).
Yes, the lake extends to the right (The sound take is approx. directed to south), and there are also some woods on the right.
About reflecting sounds (Very sensible ear ;) Rob ) there is a wood too on a little peninsula, one hundred meters on the left/center.

    Hi Cedric–
So, I couldn’t hear the forest(s) for the trees! Fascinating– the enigma set-up with the tree-less photo. Spaced omnis: you’ve got to love em. Rob D.
